As with many other events, the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a change in an annual holiday event on the Summerville Campus of Augusta University.
The “Lighting of the Grove” will be a show of lights in the Grove on the Summerville Campus. The lights will be on display starting Tuesday, December 1, and run through the end of the month, according to Ingrid Tutt, Event Producer with the university’s Office of Protocol and Special Events.
“We are developing new ways to attract families and students to campus [to celebrate the holidays],” said Tutt.
Augusta University is using this new event as a substitute for the traditional “Lighting of the Tree” event that takes place each year, involving family friendly activities, caroling, photos with Santa, ice skating, and more.
The university encourages folks to drive through campus during the evenings in December to enjoy the lights while they’re out and about. The Grove is located between the Fine Arts Center and Reese Library and lights can be seen from entering the main entrance to the Summerville Campus (Walton Way at Fleming Avenue).
