Another hurricane season begins soon. The Atlantic basin hurricane season officially begins June 1, and ends November 30.
Although tropical storms and hurricanes can develop before or after the season, most of the time, storms are confined to the official season.

The names are on a list that rotates every six years. This year’s list will repeat in 2026. Storm names that are retired because of their strength or devastation, are replaced with a new name on the list. Names are determined by the World Meteorological Organization, which is part of the United Nations.
