I received this recipe from an old friend quite a few years ago, and have made it several times, especially around the holidays. People love it, and they’re more likely to give it a try if you put frosting on top. Feel free to try it and make it your own!
Butter Pecan Cake
Step 1: Mix the following items together:
- 1 Egg
- 1 Box Yellow Cake Mix (can use Devil’s Food)
- 1 Cup Chopped Pecans
- 1 Melted Stick of Butter
Step 2: Press mixture into 9×13 pan
Step 3: Mix the following items together:
- One 8 oz. package of Cream Cheese
- 1 Box Confectioner’s Sugar
- 2 Eggs
- 1 Tablespoon of Vanilla
Step 4: Pour mixture on top of cake batter that was pressed into pan.
This is how the cake should look at this point:
Step 5: Bake at 325° for 40-65 minutes.

Step 6 (Optional): Spread one container of butter cream frosting on the top (see below)
Helpful tips: Be sure to use your egg beater on high when mixing the first batch of ingredients. It gets really thick! Baking times may vary depending on oven. The top of the cake should look golden brown when done. Finally, I recommend cutting cake into squares and serving on a platter. I’ve noticed people are much more likely to try it if they’re served that way…and they discover they love it!
I enjoyed your blog and the cake sounds yummy.
