Spring Took a Hiatus in March

April 5, 2018

Spring weather came roaring into Augusta during the month of February, but winter fought back during March!

In fact, March 2018 was cooler than February 2018 was in Augusta.

The average temperature for March was 54.5° at Augusta Regional Airport, according to the National Weather Service. That was down from 60.0° the month before.

The normal average temperature for March in Augusta is 55.9°, so temperatures were 1.4° cooler than average.

March was also drier than average in Augusta with only 3.21 inches of rain at Augusta Regional Airport, almost one inch below average. Through March 31, Augusta had a 2018 rainfall deficit of 5.14 inches.

The back and forth of unusual warm and cold spells during the past few months seems to have been a good combination for spring blooms to be timed almost perfectly for this year’s Masters Tournament.
