The warm trend continued during the month of March for Augusta. It was the fourth month in a row of above average temperatures. Despite the warm weather, temperatures in March were similar to temperatures in February, which means the deviation from normal was not as significant in March as it was the month before.
The average temperature in Augusta during March was 57.0°, which is 1.1° above normal. February’s average temperature wasn’t much cooler at 55.8°, which was 6.7° above normal.
The average high temperature in March was 71.2°. Normal is 69.9°. The average low was 42.8°, close to the normal value of 42.0°.
March is normally one of the wetter months of the year, but in 2019, only 2.23 inches of rain was recorded at Augusta Regional Airport, nearly 2 inches below average.
The warmer than average conditions during the winter and early spring have allowed Augusta’s famed azaleas to bloom earlier than average. But there are still plenty of beautiful blooms to be found, and no doubt a good many of them will hang on for Masters week, which begins Monday. Dogwood and cherry blossoms are expected to have finished blooming by that time, for the most part.
