Temperatures Below Average in December for First Time in Months

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Temperatures during December 2020 averaged below the 30-year average for the first time since May 2020.

According to the National Weather Service, the average temperature for the month was 46.9° at Augusta Regional Airport, which was 0.3° below the 1981-2010 average for December. This average includes an average daily high temperature of 60.1° and an average daily low of 33.8°. The coldest temperature of the month occurred on the 26th when the low dipped to 20°.

Precipitation was also a little below average. 3.17″ of precipitation was recorded during the month, compared to the 30-year average of 3.39″.

The only other month of 2020 that brought below average temperatures was May, with a departure from normal of only -0.1°.
