It seems that we are increasingly hearing about the health benefits probiotics may offer us.
According to the Mayo Clinic, probiotics “are good bacteria that are either the same as or very similar to the bacteria that are already in your body.” In addition to foods that contain probiotics (such as yogurt and sauerkraut), many over-the-counter supplements are now widely available.
I have been taking probiotic supplements fairly regularly in recent years, and even one of my doctors recommended I take them during a round of antibiotic use. Recently, I have cut back on my probiotic consumption. The supplements are usually expensive, especially if you buy the kind that are refrigerated (which is recommended to keep the good bacteria alive).
Now, a new study by researchers at Augusta University indicates that bloating and brain fog may be side effects of probiotic use. To learn more about what the study found, visit the full article.
